Health and Comparative Claims

The Thrive™ bottles carry a marker "Helps Maintain Heart Health" that refers to an on-bottle accepted short version of the official FDA Qualified Health Claim (see rear panel of the bottle.)

The full official FDA Qualified Health Claim reads:

"Supportive but not conclusive scientific evidence suggests that daily consumption of about 1 1⁄2 tablespoons (20 grams) of oils containing high levels of oleic acid, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. To achieve this possible benefit, oleic acid-containing oils should replace fats and oils higher in saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day. One serving of Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Algae Oil provides 13 grams of oleic acid (which is 13 grams of monounsaturated fatty acid.) / One serving of Thrive™ Premier Culinary Algae Blend provides 13 grams of oleic acid (which is 13 grams of monounsaturated fatty acid.) / One serving of Thrive™ Everyday Culinary Algae Blend provides 12 grams of oleic acid (which is 12 grams of monounsaturated fatty acid.)"

This claim is based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil and Thrive™ Premier Culinary Oil (each 13g monounsaturated fat per serving) compared to Olive Oil (10.5g per serving) and Avocado Oil (10g per serving).

This claim is based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil and Thrive™ Premier Culinary Oil (each 0.5g saturated fat per serving) compared to Olive Oil and Avocado Oil (each 2g per serving).

This claim is based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil and Thrive™ Premier Culinary Oil (each 0.5g omega-6 per serving) compared to regular cooking oils, such as typical Canola (4g per serving), typical Sunflower Oil (4-6g per serving), typical Soybean Oil (9g per serving) and typical Safflower Oil (11g per serving).

Please note that high oleic varieties of the named cooking oils are available and contain significantly less omega-6. We do not include these high oleic varieties in our definition of 'typical seed oils'.

Thrive™ products have been used extensively by a wide variety of commercial chefs. The comment "Chefs Agree: Lets the natural flavor of your food shine through" is based on collected (and overwhelmingly positive) feedback from a group of Chefs testing Thrive™ Culinary Oils for a well-known foodservice operator.

All sustainability claims on ThriveCulinary.com are in relation to high oleic Algae Oil produced in Brazil. The data used for the calculations are sourced from: Algae oil cradle-to-gate life-cycle assessment (LCA) performed by a reputable third party and critically reviewed by an independent LCA panel; National Center for Appropriate Technology; American Oil and Chemists Society (AOCS); United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The LCA is 'cradle-to-gate', meaning it includes the impact of growing the feedstock (cane sugar) and processing into algae oil. Form ore information, please see the "How We Make Our Oil" page.

Based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil (single origin, pure high oleic algae oil: 10.5kg per kg oil) compared to olive oil (2,500kg per kg oil)

Based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil (single origin, pure high oleic algae oil: 2.6t oil per hectare of feedstock) compared to olive oil (0.26t oil per hectare)

This claim is based on Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil (single origin, pure high oleic algae oil: 1.0kg CO2eq per kg oil) compared to olive oil (2.28kg CO2eq per kg oil).

This claim relates to Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil and Thrive™ Premier Culinary Oil (13g monounsaturated fat per serving) compared to Hass avocados (6.7g monounsaturated fat per one-half avocado).

In the National Library of Medicine publication 'Hass Avocado Composition and Potential Health Effects', the level of monounsaturated fat in a one-half avocado is determined at 6.7g. Extrapolating this value to a whole avocado is 13.4g, similar to the level of Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil and Thrive™ Premier Culinary Oil. A 16.9 fl oz (500ml) bottle contains about 34 servings.

Ingredients Used

All Thrive™ Culinary Oils are based on high oleic Algae Oil.

Our Thrive™ Reserve Culinary Oil, which is even a single origin, pure Algae Oil.

Microalgae is considered the "Mother Of All Plants" and the foundation of our food chain as the oldest source of nutrients on earth. All plant life is derived from microalgae. Our Algae Oil is made using a microalgae that was originally discovered in the sap of a chestnut tree in Germany.

Through a process of fermenting plant-based sugars with this microalgae, we produce a very high oleic Algae Oil, which is expeller pressed and refined to the high quality that professional and at-home Chefs have come to love and appreciate.

For more details, please see our "How We Make Our Oil" page.

Yes! Our algae oil is expeller pressed.

Mixed tocopherols are a natural form of Vitamin E and organic compounds commonly found in nuts, seeds, grains, legumes and leafy green vegetables.

Mixed tocopherols have antioxidant properties that are especially useful in fats and oils.

We blend in a small amount of mixed tocopherols with our Algae Oil to serve as an antioxidant.

Thrive™ believes in developing a portfolio of delicious and nutritious food products that are better for your cardio health.

As such, we scour the Earth to find the best possible oils to include in our formulations.

Besides our high oleic Algae Oil, we are sourcing a very high quality high oleic Sunflower Oil to expertly blend into our Culinary Blends.

For more information, please see the Ingredients Panel on our products, or the Ingredients description our our product pages. All products are labeled in accordance with FDA regulations and will list all ingredients.

Thrive™ Culinary Algae Oils do not contain omega-3 fatty acids. Although omega-3s, in particular EPA and DHA, are considered healthy fats, they are not stable under high heat and easily oxidize, making them less suitable for cooking oils.

If you are looking to increase your omega-3 intake, we recommend consuming seafood high in EPA+DHA, such as salmon, or to use dietary supplements (EPA+DHA capsules from algae varietals other than the high oleic varietal that Thrive™ is using.)

No, algae oil is not a bioengineered food. Thrive™ and algae oil are in compliance with the FDA, USDA, and EPA's National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard.
